Flood update: June 28, 2015

It is good news across the board this week. Lake Manitoba continues to fall and now sits at 812.86 feet. If we avoid major rainstorms, we can expect to see the lake below 812.5 feet and back inside its operating range in July. Inflow from the Waterhen has fallen to 6,566 cfs. As Lake Manitoba falls, flows at Fairford are also falling and are now just over 11,000 cfs. The Whitemud flow is now down to a trickle and is just 150 cfs. Flow on the Assiniboine at Holland is falling quickly and now sits at about 4,700 cfs. Lake St. Martin has fell slightly over the week, but still sits above its flood level of 801.0 feet at 801.25 feet.

Flood update: June 7, 2015

The last week was uneventful. The lake level is wobbling as winds shift and water moves between the south and north basins. It is difficult therefore to get an accurate reading. The mean level reported below (813.09 ft) thus is subject to uncertainty (yesterday it was 813.01 ft). Yesterday’s rain will also have brought the lake level up slightly. The true lake level is most likely in the range of 813.0 to 813.1 feet today. With average weather conditions, we should see the lake back inside its traditional operating range (below 812.5 feet) toward the end of July. Lake St. Martin, at 801.25 feet, remains above its flood level of 801.0 feet.

Inflow from the Waterhen is just under 7,500 cfs, and outflow at Fairford is 12,284 cfs. The flow on the Whitemud River is now under 300 cfs. Flow on the Assiniboine at Holland continues to fall and now sits at 7,131 cfs. This is important as it reduces the likelihood of another opening of the Portage Diversion even if we get heavy rains. Last year on this day, flow on the Assiniboine at Holland was over 15,000 cfs.
